REAL IDs Required Starting May 7th, 2025

Beginning May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state-issued ID to fly domestically. A REAL ID driver's license is generally marked with a star located in the upper portion of the ID.

To get a REAL ID, travelers should visit their state’s driver’s licensing agency website as all states, the District of Columbia, and the 5 territories are issuing REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and IDs. If travelers aren't able to obtain one, they’ll need to use another acceptable form of identification, such as a passport, when flying domestically.

The Department of Homeland Security has outlined criteria for you to check if you are REAL ID ready and created a FAQ.
