REAL IDs Required Starting May 7th, 2025

Starting May 7, 2025, every air traveler 18 years of age and older will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state-issued ID to fly domestically. A REAL ID driver's license is generally marked with a star located in the upper portion of the ID. Travelers without a REAL ID or an accepted alternative ID will not be permitted through the security checkpoint.

If travelers don't have a REAL ID, they are responsible for obtaining one. To get a REAL ID, travelers should visit their state’s driver’s licensing agency website as all states, the District of Columbia, and the five territories are issuing REAL ID-compliant driver’s licenses and IDs.

Having TSA Pre-check does not waive the REAL ID requirement. Travelers with TSA Pre-check still need a REAL ID or an alternative ID, like a passport, to get through security.

Travelers can check if they are REAL ID ready here!
