Marriott & Hilton announce new penalty for last-minute cancellations

Effective January 1, 2015, Marriott International and Hilton Worldwide will begin financially penalizing for last minute reservation cancellations.   While today these two hotel chains generally operate with a 4p or 6p day-of-arrival cancel policy, effective next year customers who fail to cancel their reservation by the day before their schedule arrival will be charged one night's room rate.  This new policy will not apply to specific hotels or rate types where more restrictive cancellation policies are enforced.
