Major U.S. Airports Face Flight Reductions
As of November 7, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is reducing flight capacity by up to 10% at 40 major U.S. airports to alleviate the strain on air traffic control staffing during the federal shutdown. This remains an evolving situation with no confirmed resolution date. The reduction order requires airlines to decrease flight capacity according to the following schedule:
- 4% by 6:00 a.m. EST on November 7, 2025
- 6% by 6:00 a.m. EST on November 11, 2025
- 8% by 6:00 a.m. EST on November 13, 2025
- 10% by 6:00 a.m. EST on November 14, 2025, and thereafter
Due to this, travelers may experience potential disruptions that could impact upcoming travel plans. Airlines have issued flight waivers to allow for itinerary changes.
