How to Make Your Airport Security Experience Smoother in 2026
Several new programs have recently launched that could make your airport security experience more seamless this year.
Digital ID
A Digital ID is a secure, electronic representation of a passport or state-issued license that is stored on a mobile device. Travelers can use a Digital ID at more than 250 airports to verify their identity at TSA checkpoints. According to TSA, "only the necessary information to verify your identity [is shared], providing a faster, more secure travel experience while reducing the risk of fraudulent documents."
You can set it up through Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallet, allowing your ID and boarding pass to be stored in the same place. A Digital ID can only be used for domestic travel and does not replace your passport for international travel.
Important reminder: Travelers are still required to carry a compliant physical ID for verification.
TSA PreCheck Touchless ID
According to the TSA, "TSA PreCheck Touchless ID enhances the security screening process with facial comparison technology for faster, more efficient identity verification." This option is available only to TSA PreCheck travelers at select airports and security checkpoints. Travelers must opt in through the participating airline they are flying prior to travel.
