IHG announces new cancellation policy - July 2017

IHG has announced their intention to standardize the cancellation policy across all of its hotel brands (Intercontinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn Resorts, Holiday Inn Club Vacations, Staybridge Suites, Crowne Plaza, Candlewood Suites, Hotel Indigo, Even Hotels and Hualuxe Hotels.  ** Of note - Kimpton properties will maintain their existing 48 hour cancellation policy).

Today, more than 50% of IHG hotels operate within a one-day prior to arrival cancellation deadline. This change is being made to ensure greater consistency for guests when managing their reservations.

Starting July 28, 2017 IHG will begin updating the reservation cancellation policy deadline for all IHG brand hotels. (Regional phased approach: first in Europe, followed by August 4, 2017 for hotels in the Americas, and AMEA by the end of September). The new policy will require all cancellations to be made “one day prior to arrival” for all IHG brand hotels. The cancellation policy for Greater China will remain unchanged and Kimpton® Hotels and Restaurants will maintain their current 48-hour cancellation policy.

Per the global cancellation policy standard, guests will have up until 4 pm or 6 pm (local time) one day prior (local time based on where the hotel is located) to cancel their reservation without penalty.

This move follows recent cancellation policy updates by both Marriott and Hilton.
