Hotel Elite Status updates due to COVID-19
Below is a summary of what ten of the world's largest hotel groups have announced relative to their Elite Status programs.
Best Western Hotels & Resorts
Best Western Hotels & Resorts is allowing all members of the Best Western Rewards program to maintain their current status through Jan. 31, 2022, regardless of their future stays. Further, Best Western members who were downgraded to a lower status tier at the end of 2019 will have their previous status reinstated through this date.
Choice Hotels
The Choice Privileges program hasn’t made any announcements regarding member elite status to this point.
Hilton
Hilton has extended Hilton Honors elite status validity for members with status expiring on March 31, 2020, to March 31, 2021. Likewise, Hilton Honors members who have status expiring on March 31, 2021, will have their status extended through March 31, 2022.
Hyatt
Hyatt is extending World of Hyatt elite status for all members that held valid elite status as of March 31, 2020. All members will have their elite status expiration extended through February 28, 2022, regardless of how many nights they’ve accrued this year.
IHG
IHG Rewards Club announced that it would update its elite status criteria in light of recent travel concerns. The new qualification requirements for various Reward Club tiers reduces the required points or nights by 25% or more through the end of 2020.
Marriott
Marriott Bonvoy has announced that all elite statuses earned based on 2019 activity have been extended through February 2022 — regardless of how many nights are completed in 2020.
Preferred Hotels & Resorts
The I Prefer rewards program announced that all elite members will retain their status through June 30, 2021, regardless of the number of nights they complete this year. The chain is also extending points expiration for all members through Aug. 31, 2020.
Radisson
Radisson Rewards has extended elite status through February 2022 for members who would have expired in February 2021.
Shangri-La
Shangri-La is extending all Golden Circle tier status members (Diamond and Jade) through Dec. 31, 2021.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts
Wyndham Rewards elite status for all members in the Greater China and Southeast Asia Pacific regions has been extended through the end of 2021. However, at this time, elite status extensions have not been offered for individuals living outside of these regions.
