Due to four air traffic control system outages this month, ongoing staffing shortages, and runway construction, the FAA has announced plans to reduce flight capacity at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The goal is to “find a balance between reducing operations at the airport and meeting the needs of each individual airline.”
The interim order placed by the FAA reduces the flight arrival and departure rate at Newark, limiting the hourly rate to 28 arrivals and departures through June 15. From that date through October 25, the number of hourly arrivals and departures will increase to 34.
