American Airlines & US Airways to merge frequent flyer programs in Q2 2015

American Airlines will merge US Airways Dividend Miles into its AAdvantage frequent-flyer program in the second quarter of 2015, the carrier announced Tuesday. AAdvantage will maintain its three-tier elite membership levels, compared with the four-tier Dividend Miles program, and American will move Dividend Miles members' mileage balances and elite-qualifying activity into their AAdvantage accounts when the programs officially are combined. Status will remain based on mileage traveled rather than the amount spent on air travel.
