Air Berlin files for insolvency

Air Berlin, Germany's second largest airline, is filing for bankruptcy protection.

The airline will receive a $180m government loan to keep them running for the next 3 months after which the future of the airline is uncertain.  Several carriers, including Lufthansa, are in talks to take over some of the operations.
